How to care for a 3D-printed figure

Dust, sunlight and a hot car. Four simple rules that keep your Ninja looking like the day you unboxed it.

1. Dust it dry

A 3D print has fine layers where dust likes to settle. A soft make-up or watercolour brush works best. Move it along the layers, top to bottom, once a week.

2. Sun and heat

PLA starts to soften at around 55–60 °C. That is what a dashboard can reach in July. Sun through a window also dulls the paint over time.

3. Cleaning

If a brush is not enough, wipe the figure with a slightly damp microfibre cloth and dry it right away. What not to do:

  • Dishwasher and hot water. The figure can warp.
  • Alcohol, acetone and nail polish remover. They dissolve the paint on the eyes and headband.
  • A rough sponge. It scratches the matte surface.

4. Shelf and storage

A shelf away from windows and radiators is best. If you collect the whole series, keep the numbered boxes. Collectors ask about them when trading.

A brush once a week does more than any cleaning fluid.
